New chairman of the board of directors of Gambling Addiction Norway: We must ensure that the help lasts

Gambling Addiction Norway faces challenging times. With an ever-increasing need for help and support, but with financial constraints that threaten operations, major challenges await the new chairman.

We spoke with Marius Grimestrand about the way forward, what he brings to the role, and why the work of Game Addiction Norway means so much.

Congratulations on your role as the new chairman of Spillvänighet Norge, Marius! What will be your main focus in the future?

Thank you for that. The first and most urgent thing we need to address is the financial situation of the organization. We are in a serious situation where lack of allocations puts our entire aid offering at risk. It is urgent to secure funds and stable, permanent allocations – especially through the action plan – so that we can maintain and strengthen our offerings.

"Gambling addiction affects people from all walks of life, and it is important that society understands this."

How do you view the organization's role in society?

Gambling addiction is an invisible and often shameful addiction. Our work is about both helping those affected and destigmatizing the problem. Gambling addiction affects people from all walks of life, and it is important that society understands this. We want to reach more people who need help, while at the same time working politically for better framework conditions and broader understanding.

What do you bring into the role from previous experience?

I have over 25 years of management experience from the business world, and I hope that it can be useful – especially when it comes to strengthening the organization's operations, ensuring a sustainable economy and contributing to a clearer strategy going forward. I want to work closely with the board, CEO and employees to further develop Gambling Addiction Norway.

What inspires you most about the organization?

It's the volunteer commitment and the genuine desire to help. Many of our volunteers have first-hand experience with gambling addiction – either personally or as a relative – and that gives a unique strength and credibility to our work. I really look forward to being part of this community.

The way forward

With a new chairman at the helm and a clear focus on both financial stability and increased visibility, the organization will continue to stand strong in the fight to help those in need.
